Greeting to the Eurasian Orthodox Youth Forum from V.M. Kapsamun, President of the Eleos-Meirim Public Foundation

Your Eminence,

Your Graces, Reverend Fathers, brothers and sisters,

Dear representatives of Orthodox youth organizations,

On behalf of the Eleos-Meirim Public Foundation, and personally, I warmly welcome you all and congratulate you on the opening of the Eurasian Orthodox Youth Forum “Sky. Man. Steppe.”

For the first time, the land of Kazakhstan is hosting an event of such scale, bringing together delegates from every region of our Republic, guests from neighboring countries, and distinguished representatives of both the Church and public life.

An important and inspiring task lies before the participants of this forum: to explore new and effective forms of Orthodox youth ministry. Together we are called to consider how, while remaining faithful to the Church’s centuries-old experience and traditions, we can most effectively bring the saving message of the Gospel to young people and bear convincing witness to the enduring spiritual and moral values upon which human life is founded.

The modern world is changing with remarkable speed. New technologies continue to develop at an unprecedented pace, and human capabilities are expanding in many areas of life. Yet, in the midst of these achievements, people too often become absorbed in themselves and forget about God. The Lord, however, expects us to use the talents and abilities He has entrusted to us for the good of others. As the great Athonite saint, St. Paisios the Athonite, once said: “Young people may lack experience, but they are free from falsehood and deceit.”

I am convinced that Orthodox young people should be more active in presenting and promoting their creative, educational, and charitable initiatives. The good example of their peers can inspire others to discover the field in which they can best apply their knowledge, abilities, and God-given gifts—and, above all, to find their own path to God and experience the joy of encountering Christ.

As the Church seeks to nurture young people “in spirit and truth” (John 4:23), guiding their moral growth and strengthening them in the faith, she must also speak to them in a language they understand, making wise use of the latest developments in information technology.

I sincerely hope that this forum will help all participants discover new ideas and new opportunities for cooperation that will benefit many people. I wish you strength, unwavering enthusiasm, and God’s blessing in all your good endeavors.
